UpRiver Pickled Herring/Smoked Fish

UpRiver offers wild caught herring from Canada for you to enjoy. From whole fillets to smaller cutlets, our herring can be enjoyed in a mild wine sauce, sour cream sauce, or a homestyle herring with sweet onions in a spicy wine sauce. There are a wide variety of ways to dine on this one-of-a-kind fish.

Pickled herring, a culinary delicacy, was traditionally consumed by the Europeans. Many of those traditions have carried over to American cuisine. Most herring in the U.S. is pickled and purchased in wine or sour cream sauce.

Herring eaters have taken notice to the healthful benefits of consuming herring. It is high in omega-3 fatty acids as well as vitamins D3 and B12. Pickled herring omega-3 fatty acids offer a large variety of health benefits. They can reduce inflammation, helping to prevent inflammatory diseases such as heart disease and arthritis. These fatty acids are also essential to brain function which can impact behavior and cognitive function.  Other benefits include reducing plaque buildup in the arteries, reducing joint tenderness, and  insulating nerve cells in the brain.
